May 30 Music Department – Waltons Competition!

Aideen Walton contacted the music department to speak at length about our entry into Walton's Music for Schools Competition. She wanted to sincerely congratulate all the students who took park and said that she and her fellow adjudicators were hugely impressed by the performance and described it as “a miracle – absolutely wonderful to behold”. She was genuinely bowled over could not speak more highly of what was achieved. She said that there were a couple of factors involved in not reaching the finals, one being that logistically, the size of our ensemble would be very difficult to manage.

She was, however, delighted to announce that we have been recognised with a Special Merit. This was only awarded to one primary school and one secondary school. She also asked if she could upload our entry on to the website, adding that it would be great for other schools to see what was achievable. It was lovely to hear such positive feedback. She really wanted this to reach all the pupils involved.

The following was written in their most recent blog:

Castleknock College entered a performance involving a phenomenal 200 students from their school in an extraordinary display of effort, enthusiasm and imagination. They have an abundance of talent and we look forward to seeing their entry or entries in the 2015 competition next year. Well done them all and to their teacher, Fearghus Fallon, on managing to harness so much musical energy.”

The Music Department would like to offer their own congratulations and gratitude for every contribution made by pupils in music, through the year. For every rehearsal; the quiet practising of individual parts, taking us from the band room and choral rehearsals in our chapel, to the stage at Feis Ceoil and The Helix. Let us not forget the phenomenal performances in Jesus Christ Superstar – who needs to go to the West End?! We are incredibly proud of your phenomenal talent and dedication. We cannot wait to see what next year will bring!
