Nov 05 Castleknock Club Day

On Thursday 31st October Caslteknock College held it’s inaugral ‘Club Day’, a promotion club rugby in the surrounding area. Games and training were attended by players from Barnhall, Coolmine, North Kildare, Navan, Ratoath and Westmanstown rugby clubs.

A Castleknock College first year coach said “Each year we have students new to rugby enter our school, many of these end up playing at a high level upon leaving Castleknock College. Unfortunately they don’t often know who their local rugby club is. The aim of today is to encourage those new players to rugby in our school to discover who their local club is and to maybe develop a link with them.”

Coaches from the college, many of whom are current and past pupils, helped out on the day. There was a mixture of games, position specific skills such as kicking, hooker throwing and scrumhalf passing.

The second purpose of the Club Day was that students who have come from clubs such as Coolmine, Barnhall and Ratoath do not forget the relationship they have with their club. The day was finished off with a relay race up the College’s “Hill”

It is hoped that the Club Day will be repeated a few times a year with the focus being on love and enjoyment of the game of rugby.
