The Alton Library
The Alton Library at St Vincent's Castleknock College is one of the biggest school libraries in the country. It has books for every taste: biographies of sportsmen and women, quick reads for those who are not used to substantial books, horrible histories, and books on all of the subjects that are taught in the college, including French, Spanish and German. The library has a lot more to offer than just books: it has an excellent range of art-house films (now part of the Leaving Cert English course), the daily newspapers, computers with internet access, chess and Scrabble sets, and there is a section for doing homework and a more relaxing area for quiet reading. The Alton Library is open each day from 8.00 a.m. till 5.00 p.m. Students can do their homework there, research subjects online, borrow books and films - and the librarian, Mr. Eddie Power, and his assistant, Ms. Marie Hague, are only too happy to give a hand if assistance is needed.
